Bandarlampung (Mediamerdeka.co)– Quality, affordable and even free applications are increasingly available to support work from home (WFH) and study from home (SFH).
This was revealed in the Darmajaya Talk Webinar “Software to Stay Productive during WFH/SFH” Saturday, (30/5/20) with speaker Dr. Eng. Akhmad Unggul Priantoro, B.Eng., M.Eng. The webinar was moderated by the Head of the Informatics Engineering Master’s Study Program at the Darmajaya Institute of Informatics and Business (IIB), Dr. Sutedi, S.Kom., MTI was also attended by a number of participants from various regions.
Akhmad Unggul Priantoro said that to remain productive in WFH and SFH, schedule activities according to your normal daily work rhythm.
“Eliminate distractions (concentration problems), maintain health with healthy food, exercise, get enough rest and avoid stress, and use software that suits your needs,” he said.
This permanent lecturer at the Master of Informatics Engineering IIB Darmajaya also explained about free software that can be used in WFH and SFH. “So free software is more oriented towards freedom, not price. Freedom to control the program and what it does for the user,” he said.
According to him, Microsoft Suite and Google Suite provide facilities for online education. “Editing documents, collaboration and data storage (cloud) using appropriate applications will help us to be more productive in our work,” he explained.
Unggul – as he is usually called – when answering participants’ questions recommended Google Suite because it is more integrated so that shared schedules can be easily seen on Google Calendar. “Both software more or less have almost the same features,” he explained.
Separately, the Head of the IIB Darmajaya Informatics Engineering Master’s Study Program, Dr. Sutedi, MTI, said that the choice of theme for this webinar was adapted to current conditions.
“With this webinar, we want to open up people’s insight and knowledge regarding the use of software to help complete work during the Covid-19 era effectively without having to violate health protocols at an affordable cost and even free,” he said.
The hope is that participants can change the mindset that used to always work using desktop applications to start switching to cloud applications which enable collaboration in work (teamwork) to be carried out even when they are in distant places.
“Apart from that, our dependence on a device can also be reduced because with this application the data is stored in the cloud so it can be accessed from anywhere and from different devices,” he concluded. (**)
